We are proud to announce that the City of Ghent has selected us to optimise and restructure the site of Domino daycare and after-school care, together with the nursery classes of Freinetschool De Tovertuin into a logical, vibrant ecosystem that creates added value for the neighbourhood. With this project, we aim to strengthen the interaction between the city and the school and embrace the concept of the “broad school” with, among other things, a well-thought-out gradation of spaces: from lively public spaces to intimate, sheltered places. We are also exploring how mixed-use development can enrich the site, by integrating social housing and a toy library, and how the transition from childcare to primary school can be translated spatially to reflect the different developmental phases of children as part of a meaningful pedagogical journey. In addition, we are dedicated to implement smart and sustainable building practice, combining the reuse of the existing concrete structure with a compact and efficient new construction.
We are excited to take on this opportunity in close collaboration with Fraeye & Partners, Tech 3, Daidalos Peutz, Seghers Landschapsarchitecten and VDS Milieuadvies.
