For GUM (Ghent University Museum) and the Botanical Garden of Ghent, NU architectuuratelier is working together with Kollektif on a spatial vision for the future. We are investigating how the Botanical Garden might look in the future, both on its own and in relation to its functions, users, and the immediate environment. The result of this research will serve as a guideline for future investments and interventions regarding collection management, public accessibility, energy efficiency, accessibility, education and research, logistics, and more.
Last month, in this context, we organized two “toekomst-ateliers” (future exploration workshops) in which we engaged in conversations with various user groups, such as gardeners, researchers, educators, and managers, as well as with external experts, including the city architect, FloraliĆ«n Gent, Hogent, SMAK, MSK, and ICC. These two workshops were used to test, evaluate, and refine first ideas and concepts that are now being further investigated and developed.
