With the North-South Limburg Complex Project, the Flemish government wants to find a sustainable solution for the congested Limburg North-South connection between Hasselt and Eindhoven. The scope of the project is broader than just traffic engineering. It is committed to sustainable mobility, with a shift towards high-quality public transport and active road users such as cyclists and pedestrians, but equally aims to improve people’s quality of life, fauna & flora and landscape. NU architectuuratelier was asked to develop a architectural language for infrastructural elements such as walls, piers, bridges (bicycle and car) and tunnels (and ecopassages). Depending on the context, they will be applied in different variants but always in an overarching and recognizable language that unites all structures along the North-South connection into one coherent landscape project.
